Burn tons of calories as you embark on new adventures, like rock climbing or hiking through places you’ve never explored before. The world is your playground—so get out there and get movin’! Also enjoy these great healthy summer recipes.
Go Hiking
Take in the scenery and wildlife on a local trail. You can quietly stroll, walk at a faster pace, or try some heart-pumping exercises as you go. Challenge your family to a race up the next big hill or do a set of jumping jacks at each rest stop. Along the way, be sure to observe and discuss your surroundings—have your kids keep count of all the different animals they see to keep them interested. Remember to bring plenty of bottled water and snacks to keep everyone energized and hydrated. To find a trail near you, check out

Toss a Frisbee
There’s a lot you can do with just a Frisbee! Play a traditional game with your group or make it fast-paced by running to different positions as you throw. Try tossing it high and jumping up to catch or doing exercises, like push-ups, quickly before you catch the next throw. You can also create an obstacle course that the Frisbee must follow, like in between trees! Frisbee games are a fun way to get kids off the couch and into exercise.
Rock Climbing
Ready for adventure? Take a rock-climbing course! You can find out about local classes at a nearby outdoor equipment store. You’ll learn techniques from the experts and get to know lots of other adventurous people. Climbing combines total body toning and cardiovascular exercise, so your whole body benefits. It also helps you improve balance and concentration. And you’ll feel the ultimate post-exercise satisfaction when you make it all the way to the top!
In-Line Skating
Try something your kids love to do—have them teach you how to in-line skate! Work your leg muscles and get a great calorie-burning workout as you breeze through your neighborhood or nearby park. Skating allows for freedom of movement, so your body isn’t as restricted as it would be on a bike or aerobics machine, and it’s low-impact, so your joints don’t suffer. Most of all, it’s a really fun way to get in shape and spend time with your kids.
Eating Healthy
Besides exercising, here are some things that can be done immediately to reduce fat, calories, and cholesterol and start healthier eating. Use whole wheat bread instead of white; use whole wheat pastas instead of regular; use leaner meats like turkey, chicken and use leaner cuts of meat; look for healthy condiments like
French’s Mustard which is all-natural, fat-free, and has zero carbs and cholesterol.
Smart Changes
The changes don’t have to be big, just smart. Eliminating mayonnaise in sandwiches is a simple way to reduce fat and calories. Did you know that if you or your kids eat deli sandwiches three times a week and you simply swap out mayonnaise for
French’s Mustard, they can expect to lose minimum of four pounds over the course of one year? – doing nothing else! If you then eliminate only one regular soda a day or 160 calories, you could loose about a pound a month. Four pounds here, a pound there - soon you’ll be fitting into your favorite summer bathing suit!
