BRASSO® Multi-Purpose Metal Polish

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Has the product recently changed?

A:   Yes, BRASSO® has been reformulated and has a rich, creamy formula for easier application.

Q:   Is it safe to use BRASSO® on surfaces which will eventually be lacquered?

A:   We recommend using BRASSO® according to the directions until the surface has a nice shine, then immediately rinse the surface with warm water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Proceed with lacquering as soon as the item is completely dry.

Q:   Is it safe to use BRASSO® on sterling silver surfaces?

A:   No. BRASSO® may not be used on sterling silver surfaces. The product should only be used on surfaces listed on the container, which include, stainless steel, aluminum, chrome, pewter, brass, bronze and copper. We recommend SILVO® Metal Polish for use on sterling silver surfaces.

Q:   Is it safe to use BRASSO® on flatware?

A:   If the flatware is wiped clean, with a dry cloth, it should be OK. If there is concern after using it, wipe with a damp cloth with a little soap and water. We recommend SILVO® Metal Polish for use on sterling silver surfaces.

Q:   How can I remove excess BRASSO® from the item I am cleaning?

A:   Be sure polish has dried thoroughly; this will make it easier to remove. We recommend buffing the item being cleaned firmly with a soft cloth several times until a shiny luster is evident. By firmly buffing the item, the excess BRASSO® will be removed.

Q:   How can BRASSO® be removed from crevices?

A:   Use a soft toothbrush, brushing gently so as not to scratch the metal surface. Sometimes a cotton swab can be used and will fit nicely into the crevices to remove any dried product. Also, a very mild soapy detergent can be used to soften the residue. Follow by brushing gently with a toothbrush. Wipe dry with a soft clean cloth.

Q:   Are there detergents in BRASSO®?

A:   There is a very small amount of detergent in BRASSO® to clean and suspend tarnish.

Q:   If BRASSO® is safe for use on copper, why would it streak a copper surface?

A:   BRASSO® is safe for pure copper surfaces and will not cause streaking after use. If streaking occurs, it is likely that the surface is copper plated. If BRASSO® is used on copper plated surfaces, streaking can occur.

Q:   How does tarnish develop on various metals?

A:   Tarnish results when base metals (i.e. copper, brass, etc.) react with the oxygen in the air. Tarnish is similar to all metals; that is why BRASSO® is effective in removing tarnish and polishing a number of different metals.

Q:   Can I use BRASSO® on aluminum?

A:   Yes, the product can be safely used on aluminum products.

Q:   Can I use BRASSO® on stainless steel?

A:   Yes, the product is safe for stainless steel.

Q:   Is BRASSO® safe for use on ceramic surfaces?

A:   No, we do not recommend using BRASSO® for ceramic surfaces since the product has not been tested for that specific use.

Q:   Where can I find the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for BRASSO®?

A:   Please visit reckittprofessional.com for the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
